Contest Summary – TPOTY Awards
Wherever you live in the world and whether you are amateur or professional, beginner or expert, you may enter he Travel Photographer of the Year® -hoto competition.
There’s a new 8 image category for you to showcase a portfolio of your very best work. The winner will be exhibited in an outdoor London exhibition in the heart of the capital city near Tower Bridge, opening next March, and will be seen by over a million people.
Entry Categories and Prizes
2018 Overall Winner – A special award for the photographer who is judged to have submitted the best entries in the portfolio categories – ‘Faces, People, Cultures’, ‘Natural World’ or ‘Travel’.
- Prize – Worldwide exposure and having their images exhibited at TPOTY exhibitions in the UK and overseas, the ‘Travel Photographer of the Year’ will receive £4,000, a personalized leather portfolio case or iFolio case from Plastic Sandwich, £750 worth of Páramo outdoor clothing and membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
Portfolio: Faces, People, Cultures – A portfolio of four (4) images. People – portraits or candid, cultures, gatherings, festivals, expressions, encounters, interactions, communication.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive a Fujifilm X-Series camera and lens of their choice, plus membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
Portfolio: Natural World – A portfolio of four (4) images. Landscapes, seascapes, natural world, underwater, underground, environment, sky, climate, sunshine, storms, clouds, stars, wildlife, flora, fauna, mammals, birds, fish, insects etc.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive a Fujifilm X-Series camera and lens of their choice, plus membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
Travel Portfolio: Body of Work – A portfolio of eight (8) images. Portfolio must be travel images but the choice of subject(s) and the places where the images are taken is yours.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive a Fujifilm X-Series camera and lens of their choice, and a trip for two to Norway – from Kirkenes to Bergen – with Hurtigruten, plus membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
New Talent: Festivals & Events – A portfolio of six (6) images. Any festival or cultural event in any country or countries. With only six images you must make every one count so make sure that each image tells a different part of the same story.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive £500 plus a Páramo Halcon Traveller jacket, a personalized leather portfolio case or iFolio case from Plastic Sandwich, Photo Iconic photography tuition, plus membership of the Royal Photographic Society
One Shot: Beauty of Light – This is a single image category of any travel subject but it must be taken on a phone or a tablet.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive £500, as well as a Plastic Sandwich bespoke portfolio case.
One Shot: Hot, Cold – This is a single image category of anything that shows extremes of heat or cold. It might be a wild landscape, or a hot or extremely cold environment in which people are living or working.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive a five or six-day winter or summer voyage for two people along Norway’s stunning coastline with Hurtigruten , including flights from the UK, plus a Halcon Traveller Jacket from Páramo Directional Clothing, and membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
One Shot: Tranquility – This is a single image category of any tranquil place, experience or moment.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive a five or six-day winter or summer voyage for two people along Norway’s stunning coastline with Hurtigruten, including flights from the UK, plus a Torres Insulator Jacket from Páramo Directional Clothing, and membership of the Royal Photographic Society.
Smart Shot: iTravelled – This is a single image category of any travel subject but it must be taken on a phone or a tablet.
- Prize – The winner of this category will receive £500, as well as a Plastic Sandwich bespoke portfolio case

Entry to Young Travel Photographer of the Year is free of charge.
