Are you stuck in a rut and feeling creatively stagnant?
It can happen to the best of us. We get used to shooting the same subjects, and the same style of photography. So, what do you do to get inspired, and to jump start your creativity? How do you Find Inspiration for Your Photography?
Join a daily or weekly photo challenge
A great motivator is a photo challenge. Photo challenges provide a theme for you to follow, and a designated time to do it in. The challenge provides you with new ideas of what to shoot, and can help spark your creativity. Take a look at our weekly photography challenge ideas. You can join in at anytime.
Join a photo walk
Just about every town offers some sort of photo walk or camera club. They are a great way to meet other photographers, and find different things to shoot. If you don’t belong to Meetup, check them out! Depending on where you live, multiple photography groups are available that you can join. There is something for everyone ranging from beginner photography, street photography walks, studio photography groups and more. You can even start your own!
365-day projects
These can be a pretty big commitment, as they require a photo a day. There are many 365 groups available to join. Some offer a theme per day, others one per week. 365 groups are great if you feel stuck for ideas. You can also do it on your own, and come up with your own themes. This way can be a little harder if you are already struggling for ideas.
Work on a personal project
Think about what made you fall in love with photography in the first place. What drove your passion back then? Is there something you used to shoot, but have put aside because it doesn’t make money? Or, is there a genre of photography you’ve admired, but something held you back from trying? Are you a portrait photographer, but have always wanted to try street photography? Now might be a good time to give it a shot.
Set up a plan for a project you would like to try. Be realistic about how much free time you have to commit to it. You want to avoid becoming discouraged, because of a busy schedule. Plan out the details. Will you shoot daily, twice a week, or once a week? Be sure to allow for the unexpected. Things tend to pop up in our busy lives, and can set your project off schedule. Jump back into it as soon as you can… delays don’t mean you have to lose your motivation.
